Well, I am here ~several~ years later to bring it back because I love them still, and I am just obsessed with how this cake looks in every single way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to create a really pretty cake that is also absolutely delicious, and here it is! I know I know, another chocolate cake&#8230; but don&#8217;t worry, you can make it vanilla by removing the cocoa powder, adding in self-raising flour instead, and vanilla! A rule for me is to NEVER use a spread or margarine for buttercream as it just DOES NOT WORK. You want to use block butter so it firms up really nice once made.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I used vanilla extract to flavour, as well as the icing sugar. An equal 1:2 ratio of butter to icing sugar is what I always live by &#8211; and it worked perfectly. Oh yes, I thought why not add some sprinkles to the cake because I personally douse my ice creams in sprinkles, especially when you go to an ice cream kiosk in the middle of summer by the seaside&#8230; so why not on a melted ice cream cake like this?!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At first I did wonder if it would even work because adding texture to a buttercream and then trying to smooth it around can sometimes cause a bit of an issue, but it works with the biscuit crumbs in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/2016\/08\/15\/oreo-drip-cake\/\">Oreo drip cake<\/a>!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t need to add tonnes of <a href=\"https:\/\/expensivesprinkles.com?sca_ref=2132939.9buEmal4P3\">Funfetti Sprinkles<\/a> but it&#8217;s worth adding enough to actually get the look you are after &#8211; so I found 100g of <a href=\"https:\/\/expensivesprinkles.com?sca_ref=2132939.9buEmal4P3\">sprinkles<\/a> perfect. I find using the correct tools such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Tala-Stainless-Steel-Palette-Knife\/dp\/B0052DFBEA\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?crid=25XDOS2INBI8H&amp;keywords=small%2Boffset%2Bspatula&amp;qid=1584096026&amp;sprefix=small%2Bofset%2Caps%2C191&amp;sr=8-4&amp;linkCode=sl1&amp;tag=janespati04-21&amp;linkId=4d310031784c7b12567e9a6f55e4719d&amp;language=en_GB&amp;th=1\">small angled spatulas<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/PME-Icing-Turntable-80-23\/dp\/B001TDZZ48\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=cake%2Bdecorating%2Bturntable&amp;qid=1584096529&amp;sr=8-50&amp;swrs=E04C860068D3CEC0851F980D9657FECE&amp;linkCode=sl1&amp;tag=janespati04-21&amp;linkId=15661ef09a2b1772ee7e9e20d4c04f70&amp;language=en_GB&amp;th=1\">turntables<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Scraper-Measuring-Smoother-Buttercream-Polisher\/dp\/B07XLP3JPY?dchild=1&amp;keywords=large+metal+scraper&amp;qid=1623327606&amp;sr=8-12&amp;linkCode=sl1&amp;tag=janespati04-21&amp;linkId=cc18f25360b3e05b27d65d2fe22685de&amp;language=en_GB&amp;ref_=as_li_ss_tl\">large metal scrapers<\/a> and so on.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because these cakes are baked into two deeper layers, I find splitting each one into two layers (to make four total) creates the perfect cake. Using something such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/KitchenCraft-Sweetly-Leveller-Cutter-Carbon\/dp\/B000YJD81K?keywords=cake%2Bleveller&amp;qid=1642162807&amp;sprefix=cake%2Ble%2Caps%2C330&amp;sr=8-5&amp;linkCode=sl1&amp;tag=janespati04-21&amp;linkId=009f5d6b52f9719c4dd4c9caab2b2bc3&amp;language=en_GB&amp;ref_=as_li_ss_tl&amp;th=1\">cake leveller<\/a>&nbsp;makes it even and flat. I don&#8217;t find I need to take off the top of the sponges as because they are baked at a lower temperature they are automatically flatter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Layer your first sponge onto your chosen (flat) board or plate, add some buttercream, smooth over and layer. I create a crumb coat with a really small amount of buttercream to seal in any crumbs, and chill the cake. I then add on extra buttercream and smooth over again. A cold cake is so much easier to decorate compared to something that is too soft!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For this recipe I use<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a
