Yes that\u2019s right, I am now one year away from being thirty. Let\u2019s just avoid that little fact, and talk about all things cake! I can\u2019t resist them &#8211; but this year I thought I would do something I haven\u2019t done on my blog before, and do a fault line cake!<\/p>\n<p>I will say now before anyone asks &#8211; there is no video tutorial for this cake. I love the combination of chocolate and vanilla and this is a good method of achieving it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I used a four layer cake &#8211; baking into two of these <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/34JaXgF\">cake tins<\/a>. A slightly lower baking time means it bakes flat, and it stays moist! It\u2019s the charm of baking a slightly deeper cake too. I bake the cakes, cool them, and then half them ready. Double wrap in cling film and then foil and freeze until required!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I used a pale pink\/peach colour buttercream as the base &#8211; but you can obviously use whatever colour you prefer. I spread a little of the buttercream around the middle section of the cake using a small angled spatula, and pressed some sprinkles carefully into this buttercream. You don\u2019t need much buttercream, just enough to use as \u2018glue\u2019.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some sprinkles will inevitably fall off, so this is how it can get messy &#8211; but it\u2019s fun! I then used a piping bag to pipe buttercream around the cake bottom and top so that it was thick. I then used my large metal scraper to smooth the buttercream around the edge &#8211; this creates the look of the bake.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t worry if you cover some of the sprinkles, or if it looks a little rugged &#8211; this is good! It creates the jagged edge that is perfect for a fault line cake. Once the buttercream has been smoothed around the edges and top of the cake, I chill it again.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18665\" src=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_9153-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_9153-2.jpg 533w, https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_9153-2-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18660\" src=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_9123-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_9123-2.jpg 533w, https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_9123-2-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Extra touches<\/h3>\n<p>I used a little rose gold food paint to paint around the edges of the lines, to make it more of a feature &#8211; and then also did some paint splats as I got a little bored and carried away\u2026 sorry to the tiles behind the cake that became a little rose gold too haha!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I used the leftover buttercream to pipe tall swirls of buttercream on the top &#8211; and sprinkle on more of the sprinkles, and some large pearl sprinkles for an extra touch! This is of course, optional.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>All of this is just what I happened to do for this years birthday cake &#8211; hopefully it can give you guys some inspiration for if you want to make your own fault line cake! href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Wilton-Cake-Icing-Smoother-22-8\/dp\/B007E8KCJA\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=wilton+metal+scraper&amp;qid=1562753981&amp;s=gateway&amp;sr=8-1&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=janespati04-21&amp;linkId=a9daabf9c1ba2abf39bc8e6dbc6ba3b0\">a large metal scraper<\/a>.\u00a0Smooth some buttercream on to the top of the cake as well.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-18668-step-2-7\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Refrigerate the cake for another 30 minutes. <\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-18668-step-2-8\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">I then used some rose gold paint to paint around the edges of the fault line, and then also flicked some onto the other sections of the cake. 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Pipe some swirls of the leftover buttercream on top using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icedjemsshop.com\/shop\/2d-piping-tip\/?ref=13\">medium 2D closed star piping tip<\/a> and decorate with the sprinkles.<\/span><\/div><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div id=\"recipe-video\"><\/div>\n\t<div id=\"recipe-18668-notes\" class=\"wprm-recipe-notes-container
