They&#8217;re sticky and delicious, so this flavour as a cake &#8211; I didn&#8217;t need to think twice about doing this recipe!<\/p>\n<h3>Based on previous recipes<\/h3>\n<p>The cake is basically the exact same as my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/2016\/10\/17\/apple-crumble-cake\/\">apple crumble cake,<\/a> but without the crumble part. In a nutshell, I didn&#8217;t want to mess with a really successful and yummy sponge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-25658 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ToffeeAppleCake2-533x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ToffeeAppleCake2-533x800.jpg 533w, https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ToffeeAppleCake2-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ToffeeAppleCake2-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ToffeeAppleCake2-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ToffeeAppleCake2-1365x2048.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ToffeeAppleCake2-scaled.jpg 1707w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/2016\/10\/17\/apple-crumble-cake\/\">apple crumble cake<\/a> has been popular since I posted it, and often people just bake the sponge part because it bakes perfectly with the cooking apples inside with the smidge of cinnamon as well.<\/p>\n<h3>Butterscotch vs toffee<\/h3>\n<p>After posting my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.janespatisserie.com\/2018\/09\/14\/butterscotch-cheesecake\/\">butterscotch cheesecake<\/a> not so long ago, and explaining the difference between butterscotch and toffee in detail, I decided to skip over all of that and roll with &#8216;toffee apple&#8217; rather than &#8216;butterscotch apple&#8217; because everyone knows of a toffee apple. So whatever your baking this cake for, you can really adapt the decoration to suit.<\/p>\n<h3>Apples<\/h3>\n<p>I used Bramley apples for the sponges. block;\">Bake the cakes in oven for 40-45 minutes, or until baked through.
